WE'RE MORE THAN A CLUB
We’re a community built on connection, resilience, and the power
of sport to bring people together.
Born from history. Built for the future.
OUR HISTORY
The Geelong West Giants were born in 2017, when two of Geelong’s oldest and most passionate sporting clubs came together, the Geelong West St Peter's Roosters (Red West) and the Geelong West Sporting Club (Blue West).
What emerged wasn’t just a new name or jumper. It was the continuation of a sporting story stretching all the way back to 1878. Between our foundations, the Giants proudly carry more than 260 years of football and netball history, shaped by generations of players, volunteers, families and supporters.
This merger created something bigger than any one club, a united community built on tradition, resilience and shared purpose.
Today, the Giants proudly field football and netball teams across both the GFNL and GDFNL, offering pathways for players of all ages and abilities, from Auskick and junior programs through to senior and all-abilities teams.
Every Giant who pulls on the orange and charcoal becomes part of a story shaped by tradition, resilience and community.

GEELONG WEST
ST PETERS
"RED WEST"
The roots of Geelong West St Peters trace back to 1878, when the Geelong West Football Club was founded. Known as Red West, the club became one of the most successful in regional football, collecting premierships across multiple competitions, including the Geelong, Ballarat and Victorian Football Association leagues.
St Peters Football Club entered senior football in 1959 and was a foundation club of the Geelong Football League, earning a strong reputation for junior development and competitive success.
In 1989, Red West and St Peters merged to form Geelong West St Peter's, combining tradition, facilities and pathways to create a stronger future for football in Geelong West.
CHEETAHS
"BLUE WEST"
Founded in 1926, the Geelong West Cricket and Football Club, later known as the Geelong West Sporting Club or the Cheetahs, became affectionately known as Blue West.
Blue West played a central role in the Geelong football landscape, competing in the Geelong and District Football League from 1946 and later in the Evelyn Hurst competition. The club was also part of the breakaway movement that led to the formation of the Geelong Football League in 1979, marking an important moment in local football history.
For decades, Bakers Oval on Shannon Avenue was Blue West’s home, not just a ground, but a social and community hub where generations gathered on game day. While match play later shifted to West Oval, Bakers Oval remained the heart of the club’s culture, administration and community connection.

OUR GIANT CORE VALUES
At the Geelong West Giants, our values shape every decision we make, from junior development to senior leadership. They guide how we train, compete, volunteer and support one another. This is what it means to be a Giant.
Respect
We treat teammates, opponents, officials, volunteers and supporters with respect at all times on the field, in the rooms and across our community.
Teamwork
We work together, share responsibility and back one another. Every role matters, and every contribution strengthens the club.
Inclusiveness
We celebrate diversity and create a genuine sense of belonging. Everyone — regardless of background, ability or experience — has a place at the Giants.
Integrity
We operate with honesty, transparency and accountability. Our decisions reflect strong values, not short-term gain.
Commitment
We give our best effort at every opportunity, staying disciplined and focused on continuous improvement, individually and as a club.
OUR PURPOSE
At our core, we believe sport should bring people together.
That’s why inclusion, connection and community are at the heart of everything we do.
We’re passionate about:
-
Creating opportunity – for every player, volunteer and supporter to get involved
-
Supporting wellbeing – through programs that focus on mental health, concussion education and player care
-
Building community – both on and off the field, through connection, respect and shared pride
Our club is more than orange and charcoal. It’s a reflection of the people who make it: passionate, resilient, and proudly Geelong West.
