MENTAL HEALTH & COMMUNITY WELLBEING
At the Geelong West Giants, mental well-being is a shared responsibility.
This page brings together the people, partnerships and support that help our community feel safe, supported and connected, on and off the field.
You don’t have to be struggling to be here.
A COMMUNITY BUILT ON CARE

A strong club isn’t measured only in wins or results. It’s measured in how we show up for one another, at training, on game day and in the quieter moments in between.
Every player, parent, volunteer and supporter is part of the Giants family. No one should feel they have to carry stress, pressure or emotional challenges alone.
OUR MENTAL HEALTH PARTNERS
Breaking stigma around mental health through honest, relatable conversations. The Shaka Project encourages people to check in, speak up and understand that talking saves lives.
Focused on young people in sport, Read the Play helps junior athletes recognise mental health challenges early and build confidence in understanding their emotions.
Designed for coaches, volunteers and families, Tackle Your Feelings provides practical training to recognise when someone might be struggling and how to respond.
Together, these partners help us build a club culture where wellbeing is part of everyday life.
WELLBEING OFFICERS
The Giants have dedicated wellbeing officers across key areas of the club, from junior football and netball through to senior levels.
They are approachable, trained points of contact who can:
-
Provide confidential, compassionate support
-
Help connect players and families with the right resources
-
Liaise with our mental health partners when needed
You never need to work out next steps on your own.
THE POWER OF REACHING OUT
Small moments can make a big difference.
-
Checking in with a teammate
-
Noticing when someone seems different
-
Asking twice if something doesn’t feel right
-
Listening without judgement
-
Reaching out early for support
Help isn’t only found in professionals or programs. It’s found in people, especially people who care.
WHEN ITS HARD TO KNOW WHAT TO SAY:
If you’d like guidance, these resources can help start a meaningful check-in.
