INJURY AND RECOVERY SUPPORT

At the Geelong West Giants, we focus on early support, smart recovery and long-term player wellbeing.

Getting the right advice early helps players return stronger and safer.

OUR APPROACH

The Giants take a proactive, player-first approach to injury management. We encourage players to report concerns early, so issues can be addressed before they escalate.
 

Our focus is on:

  • Early assessment and intervention

  • Clear communication with families

  • Evidence-informed treatment and recovery pathways

  • Supporting players to return safely and confidently

  • Shared responsibility between players, families, coaches and medical professionals
     

We partner with Barwon Sports Physiotherapy to ensure the best outcomes for our players.

INJURY SUPPORT CLINIC

To support early intervention and player recovery, the Geelong West Giants are proud to offer access to a dedicated Injury Clinic throughout the season, delivered by our Major Sponsor, Barwon Sports Physiotherapy.
 

The Injury Clinic provides players with a free 10-minute assessment, offering timely expert guidance for:

  • general injuries and niggles

  • recovery concerns

  • concussion or head injury follow-up

This service helps players address issues early, reduce injury risk and gain confidence around next steps for treatment or rest.
 

Injury Clinic Details

  • When: Mondays at 5:30pm

  • Where: Barwon Sports Physiotherapy

  • Cost: Free for all Geelong West Giants players
     

When booking or attending, simply mention you are part of the Geelong West Giants.

Bookings & Enquiries

This clinic is available to all players, and families are encouraged to make use of the service whenever concerns arise.
No issue is too small to check.

RECOVERY SUPPORT

Recovery is a key part of performance and injury prevention. To support our players beyond training and competition, the Giants have partnered with P3 Recovery, a specialised athlete recovery facility in South Geelong. 
 

P3 Recovery offers:

  • Cold and heat therapy to support healing and reduce inflammation

  • Compression therapy to improve circulation and ease fatigue

  • Infrared sauna to promote muscle recovery and relaxation

  • Professional guidance tailored to individual needs
     

These services help players manage physical load, recover more effectively and maintain consistency across the season. Access to recovery services is encouraged where appropriate and guided by individual needs and medical advice.​

WHEN TO SEEK SUPPORT

Players and families are encouraged to seek support if:

  • Pain persists beyond a few days

  • Movement or performance feels restricted

  • Symptoms worsen with training or matches

  • There are concerns about returning too soon
     

If in doubt, it’s always better to check early.

RETURNING SAFELY

Returning from injury is not just about feeling better; it’s about being ready.
Decisions around return to training and competition are guided by medical advice and individual recovery, not timelines or external pressure.

 

The club works closely with families, medical professionals and coaches to support safe, graduated returns to play.
 

By prioritising early support and quality recovery, we help our players stay confident in their bodies and supported throughout the season.
